How To Prepare

No one knows exactly what is going to happen. However, every analyst I listen to agrees something is coming, and likely this year. It could be a financial system collapse, widespread violence, terrorist attacks, war, food supply chain disruptions, electrical grid or internet disruption or any combination. My guess it will be some combination that will lead to a widespread, multi-system failure.

So, how do we prepare? We can’t stop what is coming, so we best get ready.

First, do not fear. As believers in Jesus Christ, we have nothing to fear. He holds us in His hands, and not one of us will be snatched from Him.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given [them] to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of My Father’s hand. I and [My] Father are one.”

John 10:27-30

Second, to borrow from Lt. Col. Steven Murry, increase your line of sight and your sphere of influence. Do you know the people that live next do you? In your neighborhood? In your town? Who is in charge of the city/county? Do you have the local resources to survive if the food trucks stop coming? If not, start on building your local network.

Third, prepare. You should have, at a minimum, the following:

  • 15 gallons of water for each person in your household
  • At least 2 weeks worth of food for your entire household (4 would be better, 6 months would be ideal)
  • A couple hundred to a couple thousand of dollars in cash, much of it in smaller bills
  • A plan to stay warm if the power goes out when it’s cold
  • A plan for security (it’s not yours if you cannot protect it)
  • A communications plan if the cell towers go down
  • A plan to gather your family in case an event happens while you’re away from home

I’ll be fleshing these concepts out in the coming months. But this gives you something to start on.
